What is utilisation rate?

Also called: Utilization rate, Occupancy rate

Utilisation rate is the share of a space's open hours that were booked in a period, shown as a percentage: booked hours divided by available hours.

It is the clearest single measure of how a bookable space is doing, because unbooked hours cannot be sold later. Revenue tells you what you earned; utilisation tells you how much room there is to earn more.

ExampleA studio open 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, has 60 available hours. With 24 booked hours that week, its utilisation is 40%.

Low utilisation on certain days points to pricing or minimums; very high utilisation points to room for peak pricing.

How Superspace handles it

The Superspace dashboard shows utilisation for today, this week, this month or this year: booked hours as a percentage of your published spaces' operating hours, compared with the previous period. See Dashboard metrics.

Common questions

What is a good utilisation rate for a studio?

It depends on your price and costs, so compare yourself over time rather than with others. A rising rate at the same price means demand is growing; consistently full weekends suggest your weekend rate is too low.
