What is a bookable space?

Also called: Hourly rental space, Rentable space

A bookable space is a room or venue that people rent for a set period, usually by the hour, such as a photo or podcast studio, an event hall, a meeting room or a rehearsal room.

What makes a space bookable is that the product is time in a place. The owner sells hours, not memberships or nights, so the business depends on how well those hours are filled and paid for.

Common types include:

  • Photo, video, podcast and recording studios.
  • Event halls and party venues.
  • Meeting rooms, training rooms and private offices hired by the hour.
  • Rehearsal, dance and fitness rooms.
  • Kitchens, galleries and other spaces hired for shoots or pop-ups.

The questions are the same across all of them: when is it free, how much does it cost for the time I want, what is included, and how do I pay. A bookable space that answers those without a conversation books more often. See turning a spare room into a bookable space.

How Superspace handles it

In Superspace each bookable space has its own photos, description, capacity, amenities, hourly rate, operating hours, booking rules and cancellation policy. One business can run several spaces from one account, on one calendar.

Common questions

Is a bookable space the same as a short-let?

No. A short-let is rented by the night for someone to stay in. A bookable space is usually rented by the hour for an activity: a shoot, a meeting, an event or a rehearsal.

Can I make a room in my home into a bookable space?

Yes, if you can control access, power and noise, and you have permission where needed. Start with a clear hourly rate, a minimum booking length and house rules.
